Srinagar: Under Fire Safety Week, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, organized an interactive and educational Fire Safety Mock Drill today, which was designed to create awareness regarding fire safety procedure and preparedness in the event of a fire.
The drill, a collaborative effort of SKIMS Medical College’s Security Wing, Hostel Division, and Department of Community Medicine, covered demonstrations on the practical handling of fire emergencies, such as electrical and LPG cylinder-related fires.
Students, staff, and hostel inmates were all actively involved in the training program, learning the proper methods to operate fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment.
Headlining the drill, fire safety officers Altaf Ahmad and Tanveer of the Fire and Emergency Services Department illustrated key response techniques. They showed step-by-step procedures for dealing with fire-related emergencies, highlighting the importance of prompt action and preventive measures.
Prof. Fazlul Qadir Parray, Principal SKIMS Medical College, welcomed the initiative, citing its significance in promoting a safety-oriented culture within the institution. He underscored that exercises of this nature are crucial to ensuring that all are adequately equipped to handle emergencies quickly and efficiently.
The exercise ended with an interactive Q&A session where participants were afforded the chance to pose questions, further solidifying the practical information disseminated during the drill.
