Keran: The Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army on Saturday organized a Kargil Vijay Diwas commemoration event at Rohe-E-Hind, a prominent landmark in the border village of Keran. The programme marked the 26th anniversary of India’s victory in the Kargil War and aimed to pay tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives during the 1999 conflict.
The event included a series of cultural and public engagement activities. School students from the local area participated with patriotic performances, including a group rendition of a Desh Bhakti-themed song. Army officials said the aim was to foster a spirit of national unity and honour the contributions of armed forces personnel.

As part of the celebration, a tree plantation drive titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” was conducted. Organizers said the initiative was symbolic, intended to promote environmental awareness and pay respect to maternal figures in both familial and national contexts. In addition, a car rally was flagged off during the day, featuring participation from local youth and rally enthusiasts.

Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and Veer Naris (war widows) were formally felicitated during the programme. Army officials presented tokens of appreciation and reiterated the institution’s commitment to the welfare of veterans and their families.
The programme was attended by Brig Vikram Singh Chauhan, YSM, Brig P Semwal, VSM, Commander of 268 Infantry Brigade, Col Bhupender Singh Shahi (Retd), and Mr. Taufeeq Mughal, one of the rally organizers. Civil society members and residents from nearby areas also participated.
Local residents acknowledged the Army’s role in the region, particularly in areas of community development and public outreach. Organizers stated that such events aim to strengthen civil-military relations and encourage youth participation in national observances.
The event concluded in the afternoon hours and was conducted under security arrangements made jointly by the Army and local administration.
