Tangdhar: In a landmark step towards enhancing digital literacy and career readiness, the Government Degree College (GDC) Tangdhar hosted a One-Day Orientation Programme in collaboration with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Srinagar. The event, held on 11th August 2025, focused on Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and career opportunities in emerging technologies.
The programme began with a welcome address by Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Principal of the College, who emphasized the vital role of digital technologies in building a sustainable society. Dr. Ashiq Hussain, Director, NIELIT Srinagar, delivered an engaging lecture on Cyber Security and introduced students to various career-oriented courses offered by NIELIT. Dr. Syed Nisar, Scientist ‘D’ and Joint Director, NIELIT Srinagar, shared insights into the transformative power of AI in shaping the future.
As part of the event, NIELIT Srinagar and GDC Tangdhar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch skill development and training courses in the college. This collaboration aims to equip students of the remote Karnah region with cutting-edge IT skills and professional certifications. On-the-spot registration for a computer skill course received an overwhelming response from students, earning praise from the NIELIT Director.
Vice Principal Prof. Tariq Hussain Mir lauded the initiative and encouraged students to take full advantage of such opportunities. The programme was moderated by Ms. Sadaf Rouf (Assistant Professor, English), with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Javid Ahmad Parray (Assistant Professor, EVS & Staff Secretary). The successful execution of the event was credited to Dr. Bilal Ahmad Sheikh (Assistant Professor, History) and Dr. Younas Rasheed Tantray (Assistant Professor, Botany).
