The stage was set, and the agenda for the grand “Awareness Camp cum Interaction Program” in Kupwara was penned down with much fanfare. The honored guest, none other than Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat, the Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB), was all set to deliver an impassioned speech on January 21, 2025.
What could go wrong, right? After all, this wasn’t just any camp. This was to be the event of the year! Except, as things in Jammu and Kashmir go, “Goutcha!”. The NC (National Conference) government, apparently with a sixth sense for political drama, decided to crash the party in the most unexpected of ways. Instead of warmly attending the event and perhaps sending a few local dignitaries for appearances, the NC came in hot with a real twist — a bombshell reconstitution of the Board of Directors of the KVIB itself.
Yes, while Dr. Bhat was likely preparing her speech, an official government order (dated January 20, 2025) made it clear that there were bigger things to be taken care of: the reshuffling of KVIB’s leadership. Gone were a few old faces, and in came some fresh bureaucratic blood and Political Chairman. With the stroke of a pen, the NC ensured that the BJP appointees were put on notice, making their presence increasingly uncomfortable in a government that seemed to no longer tolerate political leftovers.
In a stroke of sheer political finesse, the NC played it like a game of chess, getting Dr. Bhat to unknowingly waltz into what looked like a carefully orchestrated political move. “Awareness camp,” you say? Well, it looks like Dr. Bhat’s awareness was indeed raised to the fact that her party’s affiliations weren’t sitting too well with the new powers in charge. A few hands shook, a few smiles were exchanged, but at the end of the day, it was clear: you’re either in the NC camp or out in the cold, no matter how many “Awareness Programs” you try to hold.
In a cheeky display of political one-upmanship, the NC’s spokesperson was quick to remind the public that this wasn’t just a strategic move — no, no — it was simply a necessary one. With the message of “resign or face consequences,” the NC sent out a clear message to those appointed by the previous BJP-led administration. The timing, of course, couldn’t have been better.
Dr. Bhat might have expected an enthusiastic reception from the people of Kupwara, but little did she knew that the event would soon turn into a backstage political tug-of-war. Imagine walking into a meeting, only to realize you’re the one who’s been re-constituted — and not in the way you expected.
The question remains, though: who’s really benefiting from all this chaos? Is it the unemployed youth of Kupwara eagerly awaiting a helping hand from their leadership? Or is it the political chessboard, where pawns like Dr. Bhat find themselves outwitted by the masters of the game?
