Kupwara, Kashmir – The Tangdhar-SM Hill-NC Pass-Chowkibal road has been partially reopened for one-way traffic after being blocked for nine days due to heavy snowfall and landslides. However, safety checks are still underway as the road has not been fully cleared.
The clearance operation, led by Project Beacon and the Indian Army, was carried out under extreme weather conditions. While essential movement has resumed, authorities have warned that travel remains risky and are closely monitoring the situation.
According to officials, four vehicles carrying mortal remains were given priority passage after the road was temporarily opened. The operation was supervised by Deputy Commander 104 AG, OC Sadhna Pass, and Beacon AEE to ensure swift restoration of connectivity.
Despite the reopening, layer of snow on road continues to impact mobility, and authorities have advised caution for commuters. Further clearance work is in progress, and updates on road conditions will be issued as the situation develops.
