New Delhi – Member of Parliament Er Rashid, during his two-day parole, held a crucial meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in the Parliament Chamber. The discussions centered on pressing infrastructure needs in North Kashmir, with Er Rashid urging immediate action to address the region’s connectivity challenges.
Er Rashid emphasized the urgent construction of tunnels in Karnah, Machil, and Gurez, areas that remain isolated for nearly six months annually due to heavy snowfall. He highlighted that these tunnels would ensure all-weather connectivity, significantly improving socio-economic conditions and fostering national integration.
In addition, the MP stressed the importance of enhancing road connectivity, particularly the Lolab-Bandipora road and the Takipora Lolab-Sopore road. These projects, he argued, would not only improve regional connectivity but also boost trade and transportation in the area.
Responding positively, Minister Gadkari confirmed that the groundwork for the Karnah Tunnel has already commenced. He also assured that the other proposed tunnels and inter-district road networks would be reviewed in consultation with the Defence Ministry.
Er Rashid further sought ₹200 crore for the upgradation of National Highway roads and other critical road infrastructure in North Kashmir, underlining the need for modernization to support the region’s development. Minister Gadkari pledged full support for these initiatives, reaffirming the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure in remote and underserved areas.
The meeting marks a significant step toward addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps in North Kashmir, with hopes high for tangible progress in the near future.
