A series of devastating landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, on July 30 has resulted in 277 fatalities, with over 240 individuals still missing and 1,500 rescued. In response, local shopkeepers, celebrities, politicians, and NGOs have come together to aid the victims. Videos circulating on social media show significant contributions, including a shoe shop owner donating his stock and actor Nikhila Vimal collecting essentials.
Political leaders like PA Mohammed Riyas, K Rajan, and members of the United Democratic Front and Indian Youth Congress Kerala are actively participating in rescue operations. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan led an all-party meeting, while Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the affected areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced ex-gratia payments of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
