Srinagar: In a remarkable medical breakthrough, SKIMS Medical College & Hospital, Bemina, has successfully performed its first fetoreduction procedure — a milestone in advanced prenatal care. The complex and delicate intervention was carried out through seamless coordination between the Departments of Radiodiagnosis and Gynaecology.
The procedure involved reducing a high-risk quadruplet pregnancy to twins, significantly lowering potential complications for the mother and enhancing the chances of survival and healthy development for the remaining fetuses.
Speaking on the occasion, the Head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis explained, “Fetoreduction is a highly specialized technique used in cases of multiple pregnancies, such as triplets or quadruplets. By reducing the number of fetuses, we aim to ensure safer outcomes for the mother and promote better growth and health for the remaining babies.”
The Principal of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, lauded the collaborative effort, stating, “This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence in patient-centered care. I congratulate the entire team for their dedication, expertise, and the successful outcome of this critical procedure.”
