Srinagar: A Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Resident Research Orientation Programme was successfully organized today at the SKIMS Auditorium by NAMS-SKIMS in collaboration with the SKIMS Research Cell. The event reflected SKIMS’ consistent efforts to promote academic excellence and cultivate a strong research culture among budding medical professionals.
The programme was specially designed to orient newly inducted resident doctors towards comprehensive patient care, ethical medical practices, and the foundational concepts of clinical research. A key moment of the event was the virtual address by Prof. Umesh Kapil, Secretary of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), who could not attend in person due to weather-related travel disruptions. Through his video message, he lauded the growing partnership between NAMS and SKIMS, encouraging young doctors to pursue research with integrity and dedication.
Several distinguished speakers graced the occasion. Prof. Subrata Baidya, Head of Community Medicine at GMC Agartala, served as the Guest of Honour and delivered an engaging talk on medical ethics and communication skills. Another major highlight was the Mentor Talk by Prof. Khalid Shah, an internationally acclaimed Professor at Harvard Medical School, known for his groundbreaking research in cancer and brain tumors. His talk deeply inspired the participants, particularly the resident doctors.
Director SKIMS and EOSG, Prof. Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, who also served as the Chief Patron of the event, emphasized the importance of such academic initiatives in shaping the next generation of skilled clinicians and researchers. He acknowledged the crucial role that mentors and guides play in nurturing future medical leaders. Principal SKIMS Medical College, Prof. Fazlul Qadir Parray, and former Dean, Prof. Shariq Masoodi, also delivered motivating addresses, stressing the relevance of innovation and research in improving patient outcomes.
The event was coordinated jointly by the SKIMS NAMS Committee and the SKIMS Research Cell. The organizing team included Prof. Ajaz Malik (HOD General Surgery) as Organizing Chairman, Prof. Showkat Gurcoo (HOD Anaesthesiology) as Co-Organizing Chairman, Dr. Syed Mudasir Qadri (Additional Professor, General Medicine) as Organizing Secretary, and Dr. Shahnawaz Hamid (Assistant Professor, Hospital Administration) as Co-Organizing Secretary.
