The Jammu & Kashmir Assembly witnessed another heated exchange between opposition and government benches today. The situation escalated when Wahab Para, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), issued a statement on the social media platform “X,” accusing the current government of being a mere continuation of Governor’s rule. He also criticized the administration for a lack of transparency and accountability.
In response, Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rathore dismissed Para’s claims as “misleading.” He clarified that, according to assembly rules, any cut motion must be submitted three days in advance along with a response from the concerned department. He asserted that some motions submitted by Para did not meet the deadline, which is why they were not included in the assembly proceedings.
However, Wahab Para rejected the Speaker’s statement, insisting that he had submitted all cut motions as per the required regulations. He alleged that his motions were deliberately excluded from the agenda to suppress critical questions. Para further remarked that obtaining answers through the “RTI Act” was often easier than getting responses in the assembly.
As tensions rose, government members began shouting slogans against Para, demanding an apology. Amid the commotion, MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone, urged government members to allow Wahab Para to present his stance fully
