Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police is reportedly planning to restore security protection for Mirwaiz Umar Farooq following his high-profile visit to New Delhi. During his two-week stay, Mirwaiz engaged in key discussions with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 and held meetings with prominent civil society figures and religious leaders. These included AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mehmood Madni, Delhi Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmad Bukhari, Tablighi Jamaat leader Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, and Fatehpuri Masjid’s Mufti Mukarram Ahmed. He also reached out to the Kashmiri Pandit community, sparking widespread attention.
Official sources reveal that Mirwaiz’s Delhi visit and his interactions, particularly with the Kashmiri Pandit community, have led to online threats against him. Authorities are now taking these security concerns seriously, prompting the move to reinstate his security cover.
