New Delhi: In a grand tribute to two centuries of bravery and service, the 5th Battalion of The Rajput Regiment was honoured with a Commemorative Postal Stamp and new Regimental Colours in a series of ceremonial events held in Delhi Cantt. The battalion, raised in 1825 at Kanpur, is among the oldest and most decorated units of the Indian Army, having served with distinction in both pre- and post-independence operations.
The Commemorative Stamp was unveiled on March 22 by General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd)—former Chief of Army Staff and the current Governor of Mizoram. Addressing a distinguished gathering of veterans, serving officers, and officials from the Army Postal Service, General Singh hailed the battalion’s unparalleled legacy of courage and sacrifice.
“The 5th Battalion of the Rajput Regiment has upheld the highest traditions of the Indian Army for 200 years. Their gallant service to the nation deserves the highest recognition,” he remarked.
As part of the bicentenary celebrations, veterans of the battalion also paid tribute at war memorials in Jammu and Kashmir, honouring fallen comrades who laid down their lives for the country.
A Symbol Of Legacy: Presentation Of New Colours
In a ceremonial parade at the Cariappa Parade Ground, Lieutenant General MK Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, presented the new Colours to the battalion. These Colours, a replica of the original ones, symbolize the unit’s unbroken chain of valour, sacrifice, and service through the ages.
Lt. Gen. Katiyar praised the battalion’s combat record, calling it one of the most formidable infantry formations in the Indian Army. He also took time to interact with veterans, acknowledging their role in shaping the unit’s illustrious history.
The event concluded with a regimental parade and a display of military traditions, reaffirming the battalion’s commitment to duty and its legendary war cry: “Bol Bajrang Bali Ki Jai!”
With 200 years of unyielding courage, the 5th Battalion, The Rajput Regiment, stands as a testament to the spirit of the Indian soldier—resilient, fearless, and forever devoted to the nation.
