Kupwara: The district administration conducted an extensive market checking drive in kuligam, Maindpora, khurhama, and warnow to ensure that traders comply with government regulations, maintain fair pricing, and uphold hygiene and quality standards. The drive is being carried out during the month of Ramzan under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Balasaheb Suse.
During the inspection, teams visited various shops and business establishments to verify rate lists, check the quality of food items, and ensure that essential commodities are available to the public without overpricing. Officials imposed a fine of ₹1000 on traders found violating norms. Expired and substandard food items were also seized and destroyed on the spot to safeguard consumers.
The checking drive was conducted in the presence of Naib Tehsildar Lalpora Zakir Hassain Khanday, TSO Sogam Gulzar Ahmad Wani, and officials from the local police including, who ensured strict monitoring and enforcement throughout the drive.
Officials stated that such inspections will continue in different areas and warned traders to strictly adhere to rules regarding pricing, hygiene, and sale of quality goods. Residents were also urged to report any complaints of overcharging or sale of expired items to the authorities.
