Kupwara: In a significant step toward combating the growing menace of drug addiction in Kashmir, the Indian Army’s Humdard-E-Kupwara (41 Rashtriya Rifles), in collaboration with the Drug De-addiction Centre (DDC) of Sub Divisional Hospital (SDH), Kupwara, conducted a comprehensive drug awareness program. The event was held at the Government Degree College and Kupwara Public School in Kupwara district, aiming to educate the youth about the dangers of drug abuse, its causes, and life-threatening consequences.
Prominent speakers at the event included Dr. Meraz from District Hospital Handwara and Dr. Tabassum, a PhD in Psychology and a counselor at the drug de-addiction center, SDH Kupwara. Together, they delivered insightful lectures to an audience of over 350 students, including both boys and girls, as well as school staff, across both venues.
The sessions emphasized the root causes of addiction, its devastating impact on families and communities, and the critical importance of seeking timely help. Attendees were encouraged to serve as ambassadors of change by spreading awareness within their circles.
The initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response from the local community, who praised the Indian Army and its partners for addressing this pressing issue. Many locals expressed a strong desire for similar campaigns to be organized regularly, highlighting their importance in fostering a healthier and more informed society.
This awareness drive by the Chinar Corps Warriors is yet another example of their commitment to the socio-economic upliftment of Kupwara. By empowering the youth with knowledge and resources, such efforts aim to steer the region toward a brighter and addiction-free future.
