Keran, Kupwara: In a powerful story of perseverance and community upliftment, the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Keran has sparked a wave of academic success through its Winter Tuition initiative, changing the educational landscape in the remote Keran Bowl along the Line of Control (LoC).

Launched under Operation Sadbhavana, the initiative aims to bridge the education gap during the harsh winter months when schools often remain closed and access to learning is disrupted. This year, the program witnessed a landmark success — a local student, nurtured through the initiative, cleared both Class 10 and 12 board examinations in the same academic year, a rare feat in the region.
Conducted by committed Army personnel alongside civilian volunteers, the tuition classes have become a vital lifeline for students facing geographic isolation and limited resources. One of the most impactful additions came in 2024, when the Army introduced a school bus service, enabling safer and more reliable access to education — particularly for girls. Previously, the 20-kilometer journey to school through rugged terrain was a major deterrent for families.
“The Indian Army, especially the Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Keran, always puts our children’s future first. This is more than education — it’s about hope, dignity, and empowerment,” said a local parent, echoing the community’s gratitude.
