Srinagar: A doctor at Baramulla Hospital has raised serious questions about the Army’s claim that shots were fired at a truck’s tires to stop the vehicle, stating that the injury suggests close-range firing. The victim, Waseem Ahmad Mir, a civilian truck driver, was killed in an Army firing incident near Sopore, triggering outrage and demands for accountability.
As reported by The Indian Express, the Army claims Mir ignored multiple warnings at a checkpoint, leading to a 23-kilometer chase before shots were fired at the vehicle. However, the doctor treating Mir at Baramulla Hospital told The Indian Express, “He had a single bullet wound with both entry and exit points. The nature of the injury suggests he was shot from close range.”
Mir’s family has rejected the Army’s version, demanding CCTV footage from security checkpoints to clarify what really happened. Political leaders have also condemned the incident, with PDP’s Iltija Mufti questioning the Army’s explanation, and Sajad Lone calling the killing a “murder”.
