Banihal: Government Degree College Banihal celebrated Sir Syed Day with great zeal and enthusiasm to mark the 207th birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. In honour of the day, the Department of Urdu, GDC Banihal, organized an intra college students seminar on the theme “The Legacy of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and the Aligarh Movement.”
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Shafiq Ahmed Katoch, Principal, GDC Banihal. On the occasion, he greeted the participants with the informative speech on Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, his legacy and Aligarh Movement. In the beginning of his address, he talked about the day and its significance. While delivering the inaugural address, he presented the complete overview of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and his contribution. In his address, Prof. Shafiq Ahmed said that “Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was not only the founder of Aligarh Muslim University but also a great thinker, social reformer, and educationist. He played an important role in shaping the modern Indian society and worked hard to promote modern education. He believed in inclusiveness, tolerance, rationality, modernity, interfaith understanding and national unity. We need to spread his messages across the diverse communities and worldwide”.
The seminar was chaired by Dr. Sajad Ahmed Ganie, Senior Lecturer, Department of Chemistry, GDC Banihal. In his address, Dr. Sajad also highlighted the contribution of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. He emphasized that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s efforts towards the educational and social upliftment of the Indian society were both remarkable and challenging. He noted that “Sir Syed Ahmed Khan faced considerable opposition from various orthodox religious and social factions due to his progressive and liberal views. Despite widespread criticism, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan remained steadfast in his mission. Through his unwavering commitment, he played a pivotal role in steering the nation away from intellectual stagnation and towards modern, scientific, and rational education”.
On the occasion, many students delivered presentations on various aspects of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s contributions and legacy.
The event was attended by a large number of students and faculty members of the college.
In the end, all the student participants were felicitated with certificates of appreciation.
The event concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Bilal Ahmed Tantray.
