Kathua: In a tragic development, three Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) personnel lost their lives in a fierce gun battle in Kathua district. The encounter also left two JKP personnel injured, while a Special Forces soldier from the elite 1 Special Force (Para) unit sustained critical injuries and is being airlifted for medical treatment. The injured Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) is reported to be in stable condition.

The policemen who made the supreme sacrifice have been identified as SgCt Tariq Ahmad, son of Kabir Hussain, a resident of Reasi; SgCt Jaswant Singh, son of Angrez Singh, from Londi, Hiranagar; and SgCt Balwinder Singh, son of Prem Singh, a resident of Kanna Chak, Kathua. Their martyrdom stands as a testament to the bravery and dedication of security personnel who continue to safeguard the region despite grave risks.
The encounter erupted in the forested Ghati Juthana area when security forces, acting on intelligence inputs, intercepted an armed group. The operation, involving the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, the Army, BSF, and CRPF, led to a prolonged and intense exchange of fire. Officials believe the group may have links to an earlier infiltration attempt in the Hiranagar sector, where security forces had previously recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti have been stationed in Kathua, closely monitoring the situation. With security forces maintaining a tight cordon, operations are still underway to eliminate any remaining threats.
As the nation mourns the loss of these brave officers, their sacrifice will be remembered with honor and gratitude. Their courage in the face of danger serves as a reminder of the immense challenges faced by security personnel in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
