Karnah: In accordance with the plan of action and calendar of activities for July 2025, issued via Order No. DLSA/KUP/2025/204 dated 28-06-2025, the Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Tangdhar Karnah, in collaboration with the District Police Kupwara and Sub District Hospital Tangdhar, organized a comprehensive awareness programme titled “Legal Awareness Programme on Victims of Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace.” The event was held on 09-07-2025 at the auditorium of Government Degree College (GDC) Tangdhar under the guidance of Mr. Mansoor Ahmed Mir, Munsiff and Chairman of TLSC Tangdhar Karnah.
The programme was well-attended by staff members of TLSC Tangdhar, members of Bar Association Tangdhar, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), the Principal and faculty of GDC Tangdhar, police officers, and about 200 students from the college.
Prominent speakers included Adv. Qazi Mehboob Allahi, President Bar Association Tangdhar, and panel lawyers Adv. Farooq Ahmed Qureshi and Adv. Waqar Ahmad, who served as resource persons. They shed light on the growing concern of drug abuse in society and educated participants on the legal provisions available to combat it. The speakers emphasized the pivotal role of NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) in promoting a drug-free India through legal awareness and community action.
Dr. Muktayar Ahmad, Medical Officer at SDH Tangdhar, represented the Health Department and spoke about the health hazards of drug abuse, stressing the importance of community engagement and civil society’s role in building a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
Dr. Zahoor Ahmad, faculty at GDC Tangdhar, also addressed the gathering. He highlighted the psychosocial impacts of drug abuse on youth and families, motivating students to remain focused on their goals and not fall prey to such destructive habits.
Police officers including PSI Mohd Iqbal, PSI Mohd Ashraf, PSI Abjeet Chand, PSI Sanjay Singh, and PSI Binnay Sharma shared insights into law enforcement efforts against drug peddling and encouraged public cooperation in eradicating drug-related issues from society.
The Principal of GDC Tangdhar, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, and Prof. Bilal Ahmad Sheikh highlighted the need for awareness and united community action to fight the drug menace. They urged students and citizens to socially boycott drug peddlers as a powerful step towards ending this crisis.
Students of GDC Tangdhar actively participated, sharing their views and promising to become ambassadors of a drug-free society in their villages and neighbourhoods.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, expressing gratitude to TLSC Tangdhar, District Police Kupwara, resource persons, faculty, and students for making the programme impactful.
