January – In a major anti-drug operation, police across the Kashmir Valley arrested six individuals and seized significant quantities of narcotics, including cannabis powder, charas, and banned tablets. The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace and maintain public safety.
Arrest Details
In Srinagar, two individuals were apprehended during separate patrols. Javid Ahmad Lone, intercepted near JVC Hospital Bemina, was found with 44 grams of charas, while Reyaz Ahmed Shah, stopped near Pahroo Kenihama, was caught with 39 kilograms of cannabis powder concealed in nylon bags.
In Ganderbal, a vehicle checkpoint at Harran crossing led to the arrest of Zafar Bashir Bhat, who was found with 320 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon-Plus in his Tata Mobile vehicle, which was also seized.
Baramulla police arrested Mubashir Ahmad Bhat at Janbazpora with 121 grams of charas. In a separate incident at Laghama-Garkote, Mohd Rafiq Awan was found with 4.2 kilograms of cannabis powder.
In Handwara, police at Kuhroo Bridge detained Hilal Ahmad Tantray after recovering 55 grams of charas during a search.
Legal Action and Public Appeal
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations, and investigations are underway. Police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug abuse and have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics by contacting the nearest police station or dialing 112.
“We are determined to act tough against drug-related crimes. Community cooperation is vital to curbing this menace and ensuring a safer society,” a police spokesperson said.
