Sinagar: People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Lone has raised concerns over the prolonged delays in social welfare payments in Jammu and Kashmir. In a post on X, Lone highlighted that pensions for differently-abled persons, elderly citizens, and widows have not been disbursed for the last four months. Additionally, he noted that marriage assistance for eligible beneficiaries has been pending for eight months.
Lone criticized the government for failing to fulfill its commitments made during election campaigns. The ruling party had promised to increase pensions from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000 per month and enhance marriage assistance from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000. However, Lone urged the administration to prioritize paying beneficiaries their existing entitlements without further delay.
The delay in these crucial payments has sparked concerns among the affected beneficiaries, who depend on these funds for their basic needs. Social activists and opposition leaders have called for immediate action to address the issue, emphasizing the importance of timely disbursements for the welfare of vulnerable groups.
The government is yet to respond to Lone’s remarks or provide a timeline for clearing the arrears.
