Srinagar : Police in Srinagar have arrested a man for defrauding a resident by falsely promising to secure the release of his brother from custody.
According to officials, Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Sheikh Colony, Makhdoom Sahib, fraudulently took Rs 30,000 from Showkat Ahmad Sheikh of Zahid Pora, Hawal. Fayaz claimed he could arrange the release of Showkat’s brother, Sajad Sheikh, who had been lawfully arrested by Nowhatta Police under FIR No. 55/2024 for charges under the NDPS Act.
Acting on a complaint from Showkat, Nowhatta Police registered FIR No. 01/2025 under relevant sections. During the investigation, police recovered the entire defrauded amount from the accused.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
