Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir’s Education Minister, Sakina Itoo, has directed an inquiry into the exorbitant costs of books charged by Doon School Srinagar. This action comes after a concerned citizen raised the issue on social media, sharing a detailed invoice that revealed a staggering ₹8,232 paid for Grade 1 textbooks and supplies.

The invoice, shared by Inam ul Rehman on Twitter, highlighted high prices for books and materials, including Cambridge textbooks and other stationery items. Rehman tagged the Education Minister, urging her to address the matter and ensure fairness in pricing for parents.
Responding swiftly, Sakina Itoo assured the public that an inquiry has been initiated to investigate the matter thoroughly. “Enquiry initiated into the matter,” the Minister tweeted, reflecting her commitment to addressing concerns over unjust pricing practices.
Parents across the region have expressed outrage over the increasing financial burden of school supplies. Many have called for standardized pricing policies and government intervention to prevent schools from charging exorbitant rates.
The outcome of the inquiry will determine whether corrective measures are needed to regulate school-related expenses and ensure that education remains accessible and affordable for all families in Jammu and Kashmir.
