Srinagar – Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) marked World Health Day with a major milestone by commissioning advanced medical equipment worth Rs 50 crore. The initiative, aimed at strengthening patient care across various departments, was led by Director SKIMS and EOSG, Prof. M Ashraf Ganie.
Addressing the media, Prof. Ganie stated that the installation of high-end equipment will significantly enhance patient care at SKIMS. “These new technologies will elevate the standard of treatment, ensure timely and accurate diagnostics, and improve the overall quality of healthcare services,” he said. He also announced that SKIMS is in the process of recruiting staff across multiple medical and technical cadres to further bolster human resources and ensure optimal utilization of the new infrastructure.
Principal SKIMS Medical College, Prof. Fazalul Qadir Parray, was also present on the occasion along with senior faculty members. He commended the leadership and emphasized that the commissioning of such equipment reflects SKIMS’s continuous commitment to excellence in healthcare. “This is a step forward in delivering world-class medical services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
The commissioned equipment includes 150 hospital beds, a radiofrequency ablation machine, 3D 4K visualizer towers for kidney transplants, a high-speed drill for neurosurgery, biochemistry and urine analyzers, a water filtration plant, portable X-ray machines, color Doppler USG machines, a wide bore CT simulator, an endoscopy system, and a pediatric bronchoscopy system.
Additional installations comprise compound microscopes, phototherapy units, high-flow nasal therapy units, bubble CPAP units, anesthesia workstations, CUSA machines, and operating microscopes. These have been distributed across departments such as the Central Store, Emergency Lab, Disaster Ward, Radiology, Pediatric Ward, Gastroenterology, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery, and Plastic Surgery.
