Srinagar: SKIMS Medical College Bemina has launched a range of high-tech upgrades in its Department of Psychiatry to improve patient care. A Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) machine has been set up at the Neuromodulation Centre, providing a non-invasive depression treatment — the first of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition to this, a DB-80 coil for specific use in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and an ultraflex arm have been installed so that more sessions per day are possible, especially for depression, OCD, and anxiety disorders patients. Ultra Brief Electroconvulsive Therapy is now available in the general operation theater, providing exact stimulus control and enhanced safety in high-risk patients with multiple comorbidities.
Other services provided are tDCS (Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation), Multimodal Behavioral Therapy, Neurobiofeedback, and a better-equipped Psychology Lab for Psychological and IQ Testing, Psycho-diagnostics, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Relapse Prevention, and Addiction Counseling. OPD services are still rendered on all working days at Room No. 9, where these state-of-the-art facilities may be accessed by patients in expert care.
