Baramulla: A truck driver was shot dead in Baramulla after allegedly failing to stop at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post set up by security forces. According to the Army, the checkpoint was established on February 5 based on specific intelligence inputs regarding militant movement. A suspicious truck was spotted approaching at high speed and ignored multiple warnings to stop.
As per the official statement, the driver accelerated further, prompting security forces to chase the vehicle for 23 kilometers. The truck was eventually stopped at Sangrama Chowk after forces fired at its tires. Upon searching the vehicle, the injured driver was immediately rushed to GMC Baramulla, where doctors declared him dead.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Waseem Majeed Mir, a resident of Goripora Darpora Bomai Sopore. His body has been placed in the GMC Baramulla mortuary, while police have launched an investigation. Senior officials, including SP Operations and DySP Headquarters, have reached the hospital, and further details are awaited.
