Srinagar : The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of 71 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers for Inspector General (IG) and IG-equivalent positions at the Centre. The list includes officers from the 2006 batch and deferred cases from the 1997-2005 batches, as confirmed by an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Among those empanelled is Senior IPS officer Amit Kumar, currently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) with the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Career Highlights of Amit Kumar
Kumar has had a distinguished career, holding several significant positions, including:
DIG, Central Kashmir Range
DIG, Southern Kashmir
SSP, Srinagar
SSP, Pulwama
DIG, Armed Police
In February 2019, he sustained critical injuries during a high-profile encounter in Pinglan, where two militants were neutralized. Despite the life-threatening incident, he continued his service with dedication and was honored with the prestigious Shaurya Chakra in August 2020.
The empanelment marks a milestone in Kumar’s career and highlights his significant contributions to maintaining law and order, especially in conflict-prone regions.
This decision aligns with the Centre’s process of recognizing capable officers for higher responsibilities in national security and policing. (Source: GNS)
