Justice Attau Rahman Masoodi, an eminent figure in the Indian judicial system, has left an indelible mark on the legal landscape with his dedication, expertise, and commitment to justice. Currently serving as the Administrative Judge for the Azamgarh district, Justice Masoodi’s career exemplifies a journey of perseverance, academic excellence, and professional distinction.
Born on August 3, 1963, in the picturesque district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir, Justice Masoodi began his academic journey at the Government High School in Trehgam, where he matriculated in 1979. His early academic pursuits laid a strong foundation for his future, and he went on to graduate with a degree in science from the prestigious Sri Pratap College in Srinagar in 1985. Driven by a passion for law and justice, he pursued legal studies at the University of Lucknow, earning his law degree in 1988.
Justice Masoodi’s legal career began with his enrollment as an advocate with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh on December 27, 1989. Over the years, he built a distinguished practice specializing in civil, constitutional, service, and environmental law. His versatility and legal acumen saw him represent clients across multiple high-profile forums, including the Allahabad High Court, its Lucknow Bench, the Delhi High Court, the High Court of Uttarakhand, and the Supreme Court of India. Additionally, his expertise was sought after in specialized tribunals, such as the Central Administrative Tribunal and the U.P. State Services Tribunal.
Throughout his career as an advocate, Justice Masoodi was known for his unwavering commitment to justice and a profound understanding of complex legal issues. His ability to navigate intricate legal challenges earned him a reputation as a trusted and accomplished lawyer. His legal acumen and dedication to public service culminated in his elevation to the Bench on February 3, 2014, when he took the oath as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court. Two years later, on February 1, 2016, he was confirmed as a Permanent Judge, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.
As a judge, Justice Masoodi has presided over significant cases and contributed to the development of jurisprudence in multiple areas of law. His judgments are characterized by clarity, fairness, and adherence to the principles of justice. Currently stationed in Lucknow, he has played a pivotal role in administering justice in the region.
