Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, during his budget speech, announced an allocation of ₹20 crore to promote independent and responsible journalism.
He emphasized that a free, autonomous, and responsible press is the foundation of democracy and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for journalists.
Furthermore, Omar Abdullah stated that steps would be taken to restore press clubs in Jammu and Srinagar. This initiative aims to provide better facilities for journalists and strengthen the process of delivering timely and credible information to the public.
